Fallout Vault 77 Terminal - A Fallout-inspired computer mod in Tombstone Zenith Radio Cabinet
This was a beast to create and to stay conceptually sound. I tuned the lights to emulate the golden glow of vacuum tubes, stuck to black components, and the radiator hoses already had a steampunk feel with braided wrap like old electrical wiring. I thought I would have plenty of room in a tombstone Zenith radio cabinet, but there was barely enough! Taking some inspiration from the actual radio in Fallout, the most similar radio knobs to 3D print were also made by Zenith and spray painted with hammered bronze. The rest of the hardware included a custom aluminum chassis, silver 3d printed PLA mounts for the components (should have upgraded to carbon fiber for strength), steel corner braces, screws, and hinges distressed in various methods including wire brushes on a drill. The angle the motherboard ascends at allows the radiator to sit underneath, mounted to the Plexiglass which was cut on a scroll saw. Intersecting at approximately a right angle is the top flap plexiglass which holds the I/O plate and swings down to fit over the ports and secures the graphics card. This angle design required many extra hours. The hard drive is in the top left when looking into the back. The gear in the back serves as a fan grill which brings air over motherboard and out the front dial hole which is covered by a larger gear. Â
